Long Island Power Authority
Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) is a nonprofit municipal electric provider on Long Island. LIPA owns the retail electric transmission and distribution system (T&D) on Long Island and provides electric service to more than 1.1 million customers in Nassau and Suffolk counties and the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens. LIPA is the second-largest municipal electric utility in the nation in terms of electric revenue, third-largest in terms of customers served, and the seventh-largest in terms of electricity delivered. In 2008, LIPA outperformed all other overhead electric utilities in New York State for reduced frequency of service interruptions and ranked second for shortest duration of service interruptions. LIPA does not provide natural gas service or own any on-island generating assets.

- LIPA was honored in SEPA's Top 10 for Utility Solar Integration Rankings among all US investor and public power companies in the category of Total Solar Electric Capacity (MW).
- LIPA also ranked in SEPA's Top 10 category of Total Solar Electric Capacity per Customer (MW) for a public power utility for grid-connected solar capacity in megawatts located on the customer side of the meter, all of which are solar photovoltaic (PV) installations.
- LIPA is committed to adding more renewable energy resources that support New York State's Renewable Portfolio Standard which mandates that 25% of New York's electricity be produced with clean, renewable energy sources by 2013.
