RPS Webinar: Energy Storage and Renewable Portfolio Standards
December 19, 2011
1:00pm — 2:30pm Eastern
The State-Federal RPS Collaborative and CESA are hosting a free webinar on Monday, December 19th at 1 pm EDT on Energy Storage and RPS.
This webinar will explore the role of energy storage in state RPS, including facilitating the integration of an increasingly higher penetration of renewables and the interpretation of energy storage as a generation resource. We will review and highlight examples of state RPS that include energy storage while exploring the benefits of energy storage to an RPS portfolio and the challenges for integrating storage into new and existing RPS programs.
Warren Leon, CESA's RPS Collaborative project director, will be the host. There will be time allotted for Q&A for the participants.
Guest Speakers include:
- Imre Guyuk, Program Manager, Energy Storage Research, U.S. DOE, will present an overview of energy storage.
- Jacquelynne Hernandez, Technical Staff, Sandia National Laboratories, will provide an overview of energy storage inclusion in state RPSs.
- Dhruv Bhatnagar, Sandia National Laboratories, to provide an overview of energy storage technologies and applications and discuss examples of state RPS including energy storage, to discuss PUC dockets that have included a discussion of storage, and to review the energy storage handbook for PUCs that is in the works
-Verne Loose, Sandia National Laboratories, to discuss benefits and challenges of including energy storage in RPS - from supporting RPS implementation to more general grid support - as well as opportunities to do so. Verne will also discuss the classification of storage as a grid asset and the relationship of that to jurisdictional issues.
