SSTI Webinar: Clean, Green and Local: Why States Are Taking the Lead in Cleantech

Though many states have implemented programs to boost the use of clean energy technologies, only a handful have fully leveraged the potential of energy policy to support their state's innovation system. The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation's (ITIF) Matthew Stepp, Mark Muro of the Metropolitan Policy Program at Brookings and Lewis Milford of the Clean Energy Group will explore ways that the technology-based economic development (TBED) community can better leverage cleantech policy and programs to spur greater innovation, economic development and industry expansion. We will also take a look at the role that states and regions play in the clean energy economy and how some have used clean energy funds to support research, tech commercialization and the creation of new companies.

OWAP Webinar: Marine Spatial Planning

Crow White (of the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at UC Santa Barbara), one of the authors and principle investigators of a new report on the value of marine spatial planning for renewable energy, will provide a briefing on the report's findings. The report uses multiple ocean use tradeoff analysis to quantify the value of the use of the MSP framework for siting offshore wind in Massachusetts.

The briefing will:
• summarize the report, its methodology, and findings
• explain the utility and feasibility of MSP and quantify it value over conventional management
• offer a transparent and quantitative approach to assess and communicate ecosystem dynamics and the interactions among varied ecosystem services and the sectors they support, based on the report’s use of MSP in an offshore wind demonstration scenario.
